Red Deer is entering the final few weeks of its annual Green Deer spring clean-up campaign.

On Friday, Red Deer Mayor Ken Johnston and members of council will be demonstrating their commitment to protecting Red Deer’s parks and green spaces by picking up litter around the Gary W. Harris Celebration Plaza in front of the city's Culture Centre in the downtown. They will be cleaning up this area around Central Middle School from 2–3 p.m. on May 10.

The Green Deer Spring Cleanup Campaign runs annually from March 21 to May 31. All Red Deer residents are encouraged to show some civic pride, by register for Green Deer, and picking up litter in their neighbourhood or a favourite green space.

By filling out an online registration form at waskasoo park.ca, volunteers will receive free litter cleanup supplies and a chance to win prizes. The grand prize winner will get a private room rental at Troubled Monk, and eight runner-up winners will each get two $25 gift cards — one for Save-On-Foods and one for Canadian Tire.
