Red Deer County has lifted a fire restriction in place since April 19.

A fire advisory is now in place. Fire permits will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and only one-day permits will be issued. Fire permits are required for all open fires within the county.

Permits are available online at rdc.burnpermits.com. Residents are reminded that residential fire pits and any burn operations must comply with Red Deer County Fire Services Bylaw 2012/14.

Residents are reminded that off-highway vehicles can start wildfires and owners should check frequently to ensure hot spots are free of debris, and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.

Anyone violating the ban could be held liable for any damages and/or costs associated with extinguishing the fire and full prosecution with penalties under county bylaws or the or the provincial Forest Prairie Protection Act.
