A central Alberta officer charged with assault in connection with a 2020 traffic stop will go to trial next year.

Const. Raymond Wallace is facing two assault charges and is scheduled to go before a Red Deer Court of Justice judge on March 17, 2025.

Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was called in on March 14, 2021 to investigate allegations two suspects were assaulted on Nov. 14, 2020 after a vehicle was pulled over after fleeing police on a road outside Lacombe.

“Evidence gathered during ASIRT’s investigation provided reasonable grounds to believe that two of the occupants had been assaulted during the arrest process,” said ASIRT in a news release in February announcing the charges.

The investigation was forwarded to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) to determine whether the evidence met the standard for prosecution.

“Following a review of the investigation and having been advised that the ACPS was of the opinion that the evidence met their standard for prosecution, ASIRT executive director Michael Ewenson determined that the involved officer should be charged.”
