A 23-year-old Edmonton resident who robbed a victim at gunpoint and with bear spray was arrested on July 8 in Wetaskiwin.
Police say at around 12:30 p.m. on July, they were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery in the 4600 block of 48 Avenue. The revealed that a suspect pointed a can of bear spray and a firearm at the victim and then the victim was punched several times before his wallet was stolen.
After fleeing the scene, officers soon located the suspect's vehicle near a business on 56 Street.
The vehicle was followed south on Highway 2A to Township Road 460 where a traffic stop was initiated. However, the suspect vehicle fled. The suspect took RCMP members through Maskwacis to the QEII, north to Highway 13, and then continued north to Highway 39 near the town of Calmar, where the suspects crashed into the ditch.
With the help of RCMP officers from Wetaskiwin, Maskwacis, Leduc and Devon, as well as Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
The 23-year-old faces four charges, including robbery with a firearm, flight from police, dangerous operation of motor vehicle and failure to comply with a release order
After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, the 23-year-old was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on July 11.
