Alleged impaired driver charged after Red Deer collision

Red Deer RCMP responded to a 'serious collision' on Gaetz Avenue, near 37 Street, early Thursday morning

A 35-year-old man was arrested and charged following a collision in Red Deer early Thursday morning.

At about 1 a.m., Red Deer RCMP issued a media release stating officers were on the scene of a "serious collision" on Gaetz Avenue, near 37 Street, just south of the city's downtown.

Police advised the public that northbound traffic on Gaetz Avenue would be redirected "for several hours" as RCMP investigated.

In a followup media release, police stated an investigation revealed that a 35-year-old male driver was impaired by alcohol. He is charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm – he has since been release on an appearance notice.

"Red Deer RCMP would like to extend our gratitude to Red Deer Emergency Services personnel for their prompt and professional response at the scene," said police.
