PHOTOS: Red Deer's Brick Bunny, mosaic bench are reinstalled in new spots

Sunday morning starting at 5:30 a.m., City of Red Deer crews worked with cranes to reinstall the mosaic bench and brick bunny public art statue at their new homes.

Sunday morning at 5:30 a.m., City of Red Deer crews worked with cranes to reinstall the brick bunny public art statue at its new home at the G.H. Dawe Recreation Centre.

Transporting the sculpture by trailer from the Voyager Art studio (where the vandalized rabbit sculpture was repaired from previous vandalism) was done early in the morning so traffic would be minimal, stated a city staffer.

The rabbit sculpture had previously been located downtown at 49th Avenue and 48th Street, where someone had knocked part of its head off. Now it stands near the north-side entrance of the Dawe.

Also relocated on Sunday morning was a mosaic bench that had deteriorated from the elements. It was also repaired at the same studio by its original creators, artists Dawn Detarando and Brian McArthur.

The bench was previously located near Original Joe's restaurant, and was re-installed on the Ross Street Patio.
