The Innisfail Health Centre will receive $2 million over the next three years to renovate the ambulance bay, the Government of Alberta announced Friday.

The funding for this project is through the Capital Maintenance and Renewal Program, which is managed by Alberta Infrastructure in partnership with Alberta Health. Alberta Health Services identifies projects that prioritize the safety and health of patients and staff while preventing the deterioration of infrastructure.

"I am proud to have advocated on behalf of the community for the expansion of the Innisfail Health Centre's ambulance bay," said Devin Dreeshen, Innisfail-Sylvan Lake MLA.

"This crucial project will ensure that Innisfail and the surrounding area receives timely and effective emergency care, enhancing patient safety and comfort during transfers, especially in adverse weather conditions."

Adriana LaGrange, Alberta's minister of health and Red Deer-North MLA, said the provincial government is "continuing to build health care capacity" by investing in new and existing facilities.

"The Capital Maintenance and Renewal Program invests in projects to ensure health care workers can continue to provide world-class health care to meet the needs of patients in every corner of the province,” said LaGrange.

Innisfail Mayor Jean Barclay said the investment marked "a great day for the Innisfail Health ... Centre and for our community."
