Any Albertan over the age of 18 is eligible for a COVID-19 booster shoot, as of Tuesday.

In a press release, government officials said all Albertans aged 18 and older who received their second COVID-19 vaccine at least five months ago can now book a third dose.

With the emergence of the Omicron variant, the province said there is an “increased risk of transmission” and expanded availability of the vaccine will help provide protection and prevent community spread.

“Third doses are especially important to protect against the Omicron variant,” Alberta chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

“Vaccines continue to be our best protection against COVID-19 and with the highly transmissible Omicron variant, I encourage all eligible Albertans to book their first, second and third doses as soon as they are eligible.”

The Pfizer vaccine will be offered to Albertans between the ages of 18 to 29 for booster purposes as a cautionary measure but individuals are encouraged to take the first available mRNA vaccine appointment they can get.

Albertans 18 or older who had their second shot at least five months ago can book a third dose at bookvaccine.alberta.ca/ or visit a participating pharmacy or call 811.
