Nearly 300 people attended Tuesday’s funeral of former Red Deer city councillor and municipal planner Frank Wong at Knox Presbyterian Church.

Wong was remembered by his friends as a humble, generous soul, a “man of the people,” who tirelessly advocated for his community while helping others through his volunteerism for local charities.

The former councillor, who died on Dec. 27 at age 75 after a lengthy hospitalization, served five terms in public office before stepping down in 2021. He previously worked as a planner with the Red Deer Regional Planning Commission and sponsored his parents and siblings to come to Canada.

He was an active volunteer with many organizations, including the Red Deer and District Chinese Community Society, Salvation Army, and Kidney Foundation.
