The Red Deer Games Foundation announced on Tuesday the spring recipients for the Athlete Development Grant.

The grants are presented to athletes living in Red Deer and area who have shown a high level of ability in their sport. They also achieved success at the regional, provincial, national, and international levels.

The funds from the grants are meant to be used to help offset training and equipment costs.

First on the list is speed skater Nathon Kettyle Kozuback, a member of the Red Deer Lions Speedskating Club.

Competing in both short and long-track speedskating, he is currently ranked number two in the province for his age group. He also competed in the Alberta Winter Games in Grande Prairie where he won the silver medal in team relay.

Freestyle skier Hayden Matthews, who competes as a member of the Central Alberta Freestyle Club, has qualified for the Alberta Winter Games, competed in two Canada Cup events, and has been named to represent the province at Jr. Nationals in Whistler, B.C.

Red Deer Titans track and field athlete Joshua Gillard is a provincial medalist in various events including the 300-metre run, long jump, 400m run, 600m run, and the 4X400m relay.

Gillard will also be attending the 2024 U20 Olympic trials later this summer in hopes of earning a spot in the Paris Olympics.

Exelta Gymnastics Club athlete Maksym Troyan attended the age group World Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria as a member of Team Alberta. Provincially, he has been ranked first or second for his age group in trampoline.

Freestyle skier Madilynn Phillips, who's a member of the RT Freestyle Club at Winsport in Calgary, has participated in three provincial competitions where she won a gold and two silver medals. She was also a silver medalist at the Alberta Winter Games.
