Red Deer Riggers get back in the win column against Padres

Riggers improve to 8-4 on the season

The Red Deer Riggers had it all on Tuesday night.

Not only were they getting plenty of hits but the Riggers' pitching and fielding helped them secure an 11-1 victory over the Edmonton Padres at Gulls Stadium in Sylvan Lake.

The victory marked a bounce-back victory for the Riggers following a 5-1 setback to the Edmonton Cubs last Thursday.

Riley Starko started for Riggers but Rees DeRuyter replaced him in the third inning after some early struggles. Despite that, the Padres failed to score any runs early on. Adam Turgeon and Jared Arnold also pitched for the Riggers.

Riggers shortstop Mason Love-Hollman got Red Deer on the board in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single. Red Deer added two more to lead 3-0 after two innings.

Riggers Carter Claerhout made it 5-0 for the home team on an RBI double in the third inning. Catcher Kyle Belich added another run in the fourth inning.

Edmonton knocked in their first and only run of the game in the top of fifth inning with a few runners stranded on base. After that, the Riggers put the game out of reach in the sixth inning.

Riggers scored three more runs off walks with the bases loaded in the bottom sixth inning. Matthew Murray added two more runs off a sacrifice pop fly to complete the six-run final inning.

Red Deer is now tied for first place in the Sunburst League south division with an 8-4 record. With just five games remaining for the Riggers, they'll welcome the St. Albert Tigers to Great Chief Park on Tuesday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m.
