Rocky Mountain House's Saylar May won the girl's 15-19 division at the MJT Ford Series at Olds Golf Club on Tuesday.

It came down to a tight finish but Rocky Mountain House's Saylar May won the girl's 15-19 division at the 2024 Maple Junior Golf Tour (MJT) Series at Olds Golf Club.

The 15-year-old won the tournament by just two strokes after shooting an eight-over par 152 over the two-day tournament from June 24-25. Calgary's Olivia Johnson finished right behind her at 154 followed by Sylvan Lake's Coryn Tardif at 155.

"It's all about practicing and getting in the right head space," May said in a media release. "I stick to my routine and go one shot at a time."

On Monday and Tuesday over 110 golfers competed over six different age divisions in hopes of claiming top spot in Olds.

Participants were also competing to win a brand-new Ford Escape with a hole-in-one and a chance to be shortlisted for MJT Team Canada to the Jack Newton International Junior Classic in New South Wales, Australia, in October. They also had the opportunity to make the National Team Challenge in Fenwick, Ont. this September.

Other central Albertans who had top finishes in the tournament include Red Deer's Raylee Denton, 14, who placed third in the girl's U15 division after shooting 79 and 81. Sylvan Lake's Fin Vermette, 16, claimed second place in the junior boy's division shooting 80 and 71.

Following the tournament, May was shortlisted for a position on Team MJT at the National Team Challenge and Vermette was shortlisted for MJT Team Canada.
